Comprehensive Wellbeing

Welcome to the Psychiatry Service at Ruber Internacional Hospital!

We understand the tremendous importance of mental health. Our highly qualified specialists provide comprehensive, high-quality care and the best treatment options tailored to your individual needs.

Our service is composed of psychiatrists and psychologists who evaluate each patient holistically, considering not only psychosocial factors but also biomedical and biographical factors in their diagnosis. The close collaboration between our team of psychologists and psychiatrists allows us to provide the best care for every patient.

Psychotropic medications are a valuable option in certain cases; however, decisions about medication are made carefully, with detailed evaluation of each case individually and personally. In many instances, we can address patients’ difficulties through various modalities of psychotherapy without the need for pharmacological therapy.

Our approach is centered on providing personalized care. We will work together to understand your situation and offer you the best treatment options tailored to your specific needs. Your wellbeing and recovery are our top priority.

On this page, you will find information about our services and our team of specialists.

We are committed to your wellbeing and quality of life.

Comprehensive Mental Health

Our services can be grouped into six major specialized areas of care that encompass all aspects of mental health.

  • General Psychiatry and Psychology

This is the general area of mental health. Here, we treat various disorders that cause significant daily suffering, such as affective disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, schizophrenia and other psychoses, eating disorders (ED), and addictions.

  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology

Many mental disorders begin during childhood and adolescence, a stage where individuals are particularly vulnerable. Early and intensive treatment of these disorders is crucial. Among others, we address emotional difficulties, ADHD, autism, separations, school failure and bullying, addictions to new technologies, alcoholism, eating disorders, etc.

  • Psychogeriatrics

Just as in childhood and adolescence, the elderly are particularly vulnerable to mental disorders. These are often associated with other issues, such as cognitive decline, requiring specialized care. This unit treats behavioral disorders in cognitive decline, depressive pseudodementia, symptomatic management of Acute Confusional Syndrome, geriatric depression, and psychiatric disorders in polymedicated patients.

  • Resistant Pathology

We specialize in recurrent cases. In some instances, neurosurgery is utilized, such as in cases of OCD, anxiety, and various forms of depression. We work closely with the Neurology Unit.

  • Perinatal Care

We focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological and psychiatric disorders related to pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. We collaborate with Gynecology and Assisted Reproduction. This is one of the most comprehensive perinatal care units in the country.

  • Family and Couples Therapy

We offer mediation and conflict resolution treatments within the family and couple dynamics. Family therapy focuses on strengthening family bonds and improving communication among members. In couples therapy, whether they have children or not, we help identify both strengths and weaknesses, enhancing emotional communication and assisting in rebuilding a strong and solid relationship.

Psychotropic Medications and Psychotherapy

PsicoterapiaPsicoterapia

Today, the combined approach of medication and therapy, with close collaboration between psychiatrists and psychologists, has proven to be the most effective treatment for most mental health conditions. However, it is important to note that in some cases, early psychological therapy can prevent the need for medication. Although this process may take longer, the results are often highly rewarding for the patient.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology

Psicología Infanto juvenilPsicología Infanto juvenil

Childhood is a stage of particular vulnerability, as some psychiatric disorders tend to manifest at an early age. For this reason, we provide an early and intensive approach to improve the quality of life and functionality of our patients, aiming to reduce any potential long-term impact that the illness may have.

We place special importance on psychotherapeutic approaches, which take into account both the patient and their family members. We believe that a comprehensive treatment involving the family is fundamental to the child’s or adolescent’s wellbeing, as the support and understanding of their close environment can be decisive in their recovery process.

Our team of highly qualified and specialized professionals is prepared to address a wide range of emotional difficulties and disorders, including:

  • Emotional difficulties
  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Traumatic events
  • Family separations
  • Behavioral disorders in Intellectual Disabilities
  • School failure
  • Bullying
  • Behavioral problems
  • Addiction to new technologies
  • Eating Disorders
