Medical Physics

Safe and Precision Medicine

Welcome to the Medical Physics Department at Hospital Ruber Internacional!

Our department comprises highly qualified and experienced professionals specializing in Hospital Medical Physics. Our team consists of Hospital Medical Physicists and Senior Technicians in Radiotherapy and Dosimetry (TERt). The medical physicists have supplemented their education with training in various scientific disciplines, such as physics and chemistry, and have gained extensive experience in hospitals. This enables them to perform roles of vital importance in healthcare.

Their work is essential for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of our patients. They collaborate closely with other clinical professionals to ensure precise planning of radiotherapy treatments involving ionizing radiation, as well as procedures using nuclear medicine for organ localization and dose calculations in metabolic treatments.

Our medical physicists are responsible for organizing and ensuring the quality control of imaging systems for diagnosis, as well as designing protective barriers against radiation in our medical facilities, minimizing the risks associated with the use of ionizing radiation.

In the field of Hospital Medical Physics, the Radio-Physics Department plays a key role in three essential areas: clinical functions, research, and teaching. These three categories work in synergy to ensure accurate patient diagnosis and treatment, foster scientific progress in the discipline, and train future healthcare professionals.

Clinical Tasks

  • Planning radiotherapy and nuclear medicine treatments for oncology patients and other therapeutic procedures using ionizing radiation.
  • Designing techniques and determining energy distribution in patients to ensure treatment efficacy and safety.
  • Quality control of imaging systems used in medical diagnostics to ensure the accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Providing advice and scientific resources to address practical challenges in various specialized medical areas.
  • Performing clinical dosimetry, personalizing the radiation dose distribution in patients according to medical prescriptions.
  • Collaborating in complex radiotherapy treatments, such as radiosurgery and hypofractionated radiotherapy.

Research

  • We participate in research projects in the field of Hospital Medical Physics to stay updated and contribute to advancements in medical science and technology.
  • Development and application of new techniques and methodologies to improve the efficacy and safety of treatments using ionizing radiation.
  • Participation in clinical and scientific research studies and projects in collaboration with other medical professionals.

Teaching

  • We engage in teaching activities to train new professionals in the area of Hospital Medical Physics.
  • Delivering courses, seminars, and conferences to update the knowledge of other healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborating in training programs and continuing education initiatives for medical and technical staff related to radiotherapy and nuclear medicine.
